Privacy Policy
Jeerah is a women-only neighbourhood community app. We take your privacy seriously — this page explains, in plain language, what we collect, why we collect it, and the choices you have.
Who we are
Jeerah ("we", "us") operates the Jeerah mobile application and the jeerahapp.com website. You can reach us anytime at hello@jeerahapp.com.
What we collect
- Account info — name, email, phone number, and the profile details you choose to share (city, neighbourhood, photo, bio).
- ID verification — a photo of a government-issued ID you submit so we can confirm you're a woman and the account is yours. We store this securely and access it only for verification review.
- Activity — outings you host or join, messages you send through the in-app chat, friend connections, and content you post.
- Device data — IP address, device model, OS version, and app diagnostics needed to keep the service running and secure.
- Waitlist signups — if you joined the pre-launch waitlist on this site, we keep the email or phone you gave us so we can let you know when the app opens.
Why we collect it
- To operate the app — match you with neighbours, host events, send notifications you opt into.
- To keep the community safe — ID verification, abuse detection, and ban enforcement when our community rules are broken.
- To communicate with you — service announcements, security alerts, and (only if you've opted in) the occasional product update.
What we DON'T do
- We don't sell your personal data to anyone, ever.
- We don't share your ID photo with other users — it's only seen by our verification team.
- We don't run third-party advertising trackers inside the app.
Who we share data with
Only the service providers we need to run the app — cloud hosting (DigitalOcean), database hosting (MongoDB Atlas), email delivery (Resend), push notifications (Firebase). Each is contractually bound to use your data only to provide their service to us.
We will disclose information if required by a valid legal order from a jurisdiction in which we operate — and we'll push back on overbroad requests.
Your choices
- See your data — email us and we'll send you an export of everything we hold about your account.
- Correct your data — most of it is editable directly in the app under Profile → Settings.
- Delete your account — Settings → Delete Account, or email hello@jeerahapp.com. We remove your personal data within 30 days (some backups roll off over the following 90 days).
- Unsubscribe from emails — every non-essential email has an unsubscribe link, or reply with "unsubscribe".
Data retention
We keep your account data while your account is active. After deletion, we remove the bulk of it within 30 days; encrypted backups age out within 90 days. We may keep minimal records (e.g. a banned-user fingerprint) for safety reasons.
Children
Jeerah is for adults (18+). We do not knowingly collect data from anyone under 18. If you believe a minor signed up, email us and we'll remove the account.
Changes to this policy
If we make a material change, we'll let registered users know in-app or by email before it takes effect. The "Last updated" date at the top reflects the current version.
