Privacy Policy
Jeerah is a women-only neighbourhood community app. We take your privacy seriously — this page explains, in plain language, what we collect, why we collect it, and the choices you have.
Who we are
Jeerah ("we", "us") operates the Jeerah mobile application and the jeerahapp.com website. You can reach us anytime at hello@jeerahapp.com.
What we collect
- Account info — name, email, phone number, and the profile details you choose to share (city, neighbourhood, photo, bio).
- ID verification — a photo of a government-issued ID you submit so we can confirm you're a woman and the account is yours. We store this securely and access it only for verification review.
- Activity — outings you host or join, messages you send through the in-app chat, friend connections, and content you post.
- Device data — IP address, device model, OS version, and app diagnostics needed to keep the service running and secure.
- Waitlist signups — if you joined the pre-launch waitlist on this site, we keep the email or phone you gave us so we can let you know when the app opens.
Why we collect it
- To operate the app — match you with neighbours, host events, send notifications you opt into.
- To keep the community safe — ID verification, abuse detection, and ban enforcement when our community rules are broken.
- To communicate with you — service announcements, security alerts, and (only if you've opted in) the occasional product update.
What we DON'T do
- We don't sell your personal data to anyone, ever.
- We don't share your ID photo with other users — it's only seen by our verification team.
- We don't run third-party advertising trackers inside the app.
Who we share data with
Only the service providers we need to run Jeerah. Each handles your data on our behalf and is contractually bound to use it only to provide their service to us:
- DigitalOcean — hosts our servers and database.
- Cloudflare — stores the photos and videos you upload (profile pictures, stories, chat images, event covers) and our encrypted backups. ID verification photos are not among them: they stay on our own servers and are never publicly accessible.
- Infobip — delivers SMS verification codes to your phone number.
- Resend — delivers our emails (verification codes, password resets and announcements).
- Google Firebase — push notifications, crash reports and app usage statistics.
- Amplitude — app usage statistics (which features are used), linked to your account ID, city and neighbourhood.
- Microsoft Clarity — recordings of how app screens are used, so we can fix confusing design. In current versions of the app, recording is paused on chats, sign-in and registration (including ID verification), profile editing and safety settings.
- Google Maps — maps and nearby-place suggestions, using your approximate location.
- Google, Apple and Facebook — only if you choose to sign in with one of them; we receive your name and email from that provider. We don't use Facebook for advertising or tracking.
We will disclose information if required by a valid legal order from a jurisdiction in which we operate — and we'll push back on overbroad requests.
Your choices
- See your data — email us and we'll send you an export of everything we hold about your account.
- Correct your data — most of it is editable directly in the app under Profile → Settings.
- Delete your account — Settings → Delete Account, or email hello@jeerahapp.com. We remove your personal data within 30 days; copies in our encrypted backups are deleted automatically within 31 days.
- Unsubscribe from emails — every non-essential email has an unsubscribe link, or reply with "unsubscribe".
Data retention
We keep your account data while your account is active. After deletion, we remove the bulk of it within 30 days. We may keep minimal records (e.g. a banned-user fingerprint) for safety reasons.
So that nothing is lost if something goes wrong, we back up our database every night. Backups are encrypted before they leave our server, are stored with Cloudflare in a separate, locked location that cannot be changed or deleted early, and are deleted automatically after 31 days. This means data from a deleted account is gone from our backups within 31 days.
Children
Jeerah is for adults (18+). We do not knowingly collect data from anyone under 18. If you believe a minor signed up, email us and we'll remove the account.
Changes to this policy
If we make a material change, we'll let registered users know in-app or by email before it takes effect. The "Last updated" date at the top reflects the current version.
